Wokai is a microfinance organization that provides small loans to entrepreneurs in rural China. The name Wokai (“I start”) refers to the opportunity that our organization provides for Chinese micro-entrepreneurs to start small businesses, initiate change in their own lives, and lift themselves out of poverty. Wokai has offices in both Oakland, California and Beijing, along with chapters in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, San Francisco, Seattle, and New York. Now there is a junior Wokai chapter in Nanjing! Following the success of other chapters, raising both awareness of and funds for microfinance throughout China, Nanjing is looking for people to get involved. In the coming months our nascent chapter will be building a team of volunteers and organizing our first events. Volunteering with Wokai is an excellent opportunity to learn more about microfinance, engage the community, and make a sustainable, meaningful impact on the lives of others. We are a bunch of westerners and Chinese that meet up once a week for a night of small stakes cash game poker. We usually play at Studio 21 but some times play at people's houses. We keep in communication through SMS. Although it is a cash game format not a tournament format we stress the focus is on socializing as much as it is poker. This is a free coed sports club that meets several times a week when the weather is permitting. It's members are made up of Chinese and western young professionals and students. We play on the soccer field of Nanjing Normal City campus on Ninghai lu on Sundays at 3 pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 pm . Female and Male players both play together. New players are welcomed . We usually do a drill or two at the beginning to teach skills and then scrimmage. The Nanjing Photography Club is a new group in town for people who love to take and share pictures. Founded during the last HelloNanjing get together event in January we are looking into great future :-) ...... without having a decent plan but well.....guys and girls that's just the beginning. It's not hard if people into acting or video production want to get together and collaborate on small projects that we can share on Youku or Tudou. I have my own equipment, and I am pretty handy using Final Cut Pro. I have a little free time in afternoons during the week, if anyone wants to get together and make some videos.

The Hash House Harriers, a drinking club with a running problem. As part of the international HASH HOUSE HARRIERS founded 1938 in Kuala Lumpur, the Nanjing Hash House Harriers continue the tradition of beeing a non competitive running, walking, social and beer drinking club. We set a run every month at places in and around nanjing. A great opportunity to meet new and old friends and get to know places that you would never find on your own. Our Constitution is simple: To promote physical fitness among our members, to get rid of weekend hangovers, to acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer (or water) and to persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel. Our hash run's are suitable for young and old people and also families. You can run, walk or crawl, any way we'll all end up at the same place and have a nice lunch or dinner together.
