There’s a big pig roast/ bachelor’s auction/ beer pong tourney/ celebration going down this Saturday Oct. 24 at the ’West Wing’ of the Presidential Palace. HelloNanjing spoke with one of the event organizers Yan Gao to preview the event.

HelloNanjing: So what’s the basic concept of this event?
Yan Gao: Our beer brand is Oktoberfest, so we are obligated to host an Oktoberfest Party each year. This year, it’s a one-day event to gather friends and consumers who can never have enough of our beer.

HN: How did you imagine to arrange the venue?
Yan Gao: The building is the historic Secretary Office Building, which was built in 1912. The building is currently open to the public as a low profile bar/lounge. The manager of the establishment happens to be an old friend of mine from high school.

HN: They’re going to let you roast pigs in there?
Yan Gao: Well, the building has a tight fire code, so we’re not allowed to roast the pigs on-site. Fortunately, the Sofitel Hotel will be handling the roasting, so I can assure you, it will be fantastic.

HN: So there’ll be roasted pigs, all-u-can-drink beer, and..?
Yan Gao: Our biggest attraction will be the Bachelor(rette) auctions, for the Amity Foundation. We will invite singles to be auctioned, and the winners will win a free dinner with the bachelor. The income from the auctions will be donated to the Amity Foundation. Many local businesses have donated presents for these auctions, including Behind the Wall Cafe, Himalaya, Talking, Sofitel, Jinlin, Finnegan's Wake and Secco. I want to take this opportunity to thank these friends for their generosity.

HN: What’s the plan for the music?
Yan Gao: We will have live music performed by some local artists. The beautiful Alanna O'connell will be performing jazz, while the ruggedly handsome Cathal from Finnegan's will do a solo performance. In addition, a DJ will take the party to its apex, later in the night.

HN: What can you tell us about the Amity Foundation? How are they associated with this event?
Yan Gao: The Amity Foundation has been working with us since March 2009. The specific program we have been working with is a career training program for mentally challenged teenagers. Amity has really done a super job to provide safety and security to these children.

HN: As you mentioned, a lot of local restaurants will be sponsoring prizes for this event. What was their incentive, to support this event?

Yan Gao: Well, Brent – he’s the co-host of the event – and I both know the owners very well, so it was pretty easy, getting their support. We also got a lot of help from Debra Wright, who handled negotiations with the bureaucrats from Jinling Hotel. In addition, Sofitel's PR department was very cooperative. By the way, many employees from Sofitel, and the manager of their PR, Lily Jia – a hot bachelorette, will be there for the party.

HN: Sounds great, best of luck with the event!
Yan Gao: Thanks very much!
Special thanks from the event organizers and Amity to the following, for their generous support:

Behind the Wall, Finnegan's Wake, Talking, Himalaya, Sofitel, Secco, Seacross, Blue Marlin, Jimmy's, Coast English.
