Brent as Brent: a metal tiger future

Nanjing videos

B
rent Smith of Coast English stars as a fictional version of himself in this reality-esque concept produced by HN's Anil Ramsey.

In this first episode, fictional Brent slings IELTS lessons on the street, but worries about his future as the Chinese New Year approaches.

Thus, he seeks out the help of a midget fortune teller/ Amway salesman (the fortune teller is real – he works Monday to Friday during business hours on Shigu Lu, 5 minutes west of Jimmy's).

Also starring in this video:
  • Jamie (office Manager of Coast English): a helpful citizen
  • Maxim Hua: a thrifty IELTS student
  • Potato Lady: a fictional version of herself
  • The fortune teller: a fictional version of himself
  • Dude the dog: 'dog'.
Coast English
Brent Smith is the co-founder of Coast English, a school that provides language and culture lessons in the Hanzhongmen area. Beyond their paying customers, Coast also serves up lessons for those less fortunate. Says Brent: "Real life, real culture, real communication – that's what we're about.

I have to say, thats probably the best video that HN produced. Not just the storyline, the actors but also the video quality looks nice. Did you guys use a new camera for that? I am impressed!

I am especially impressed with Brent's performance, I used to associate Brent with drowsiness but he really offered some smart humour there, he seemed in his element and he seemed really convincing in his role. So, I guess I have to up-grade the 'dude' on my list from "sleeping pill" to "humourable" (self-made word, copy right belongs to 'me')

way to go, looking forward to watching part 2 (if there is a part 2). smilies/cool.gif

Brent is becoming more and more famous with the Jimmy's population. I think Jimmy is having a 'Brent' prime time every night. smilies/wink.gif

I have never heard that much laughter from both the locals and the laowai's at Jimmy's before ... so if you wanna see Brent in full action and on big screen u only need to head to Jimmy's

oh, and if you fancy putting some money on the bar staff to do something crazy you should go as well. Tonight could have been another "HN video" just watching a bunch of Irish chopping off Leroy's hair for a 1000 rmb ... woth it I'd say. Although he looks like he is undergoing chemo-therapie now.

It was a real buzz showing the premiere in Jimmy's before it got published on this site (I wanted to make sure nothing came across as offensive, in front of a live audience).

Every 'laugh out loud' moment we'd planned got exactly the intended reaction, from Chinese and laowai alike. smilies/smiley.gif

Also, I think every one of the actors did really well in their roles, Potato Lady especially!

The only problem now is how to keep it going, because if the next episode misses the mark, then it's all over. smilies/cry.gif

maybe if you team up Brent and Leroy you get some pretty amazing fun out of it ... besides, Leroy would make an excellent IELTS student, I never have a clue what he is telling me when he speaks English with me, I just always agree with the guy. smilies/cheesy.gif

you could also make a forum topic out of it to get some ideas for part 2 of the 'Brent as Brent' show ... those with the best ideas could win a few prices. oh well, don't mind me, I am just suggesting away.
