TOPIC: Best steakhouse in town... Henry's home?

Best steakhouse in town... Henry's home? 3 years 8 months ago #9085

According to the latest issue of Map magazine, it is.

I've never had the steak there, but I can't imagine a place with so many issues can be ranked the top steakhouse in Nanjing, something fishy with that ranking, I think...

Pump enough money into advertising and you can say almost anything.

Haven't been to a Henry's Home for over three years, and there was a reason for that.

So much for impartial reporting

Seems like two months ago, Henry's Home was aware that they had serious problems. Wonder what sort of ranking system those fine journalists at Map were using, to call these guys the best in town lol.

I have never been to the place. The name never sounded appealing to me but I guess an advertising budget gets you anywhere ...

hahaha, yeah, I just saw that list as well, most likely only based on how much the companies paid for advertising.

Best steaks I know if in Nanjing are at Finnegan's wake during their weekly wednesday steaknights, and at the holiday inn.

Was that piece published on April 1st? That's the only reason I can fathom why Map would publish such absolute bollocks.

The restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Jinling is also a contender. Big, fat, juicy steak with a side of mash and veg.

i would crawl naked in the winter up to the Teppanyaki in 1912 for their steak. Finnegans is pretty good too although it depends a bit on the (Boss is in the house / out the house) rule. What is Henry's home.. i thought it's another fake foreign brand in china like the "golden hans" disaster

I don't know if anyone has tried the Henry's Home in the Golden Wheel Dept Store? I called in there for one of their salsa nights (run by the lovely Samba) and it looks a hell of a lot better than the other locations. Perhaps the food standard is higher there. But I'm guessing it's not the best steak in town.

However, I don't know if anyone noticed that Map have two "Best Steakhouse" winners! One the first page of the "Best Eats" article THe Angus Grill in Crowne Plaza has the same best steakhouse title. Wonder how they feel about this??

They have also done something similar in the "Best French Restaurant" section. Le 5 Sens got the most popular French restaurant & Mr Eiffle got most authentic.

Have to agree with Bjoern - I have bizarre unspeakable fantasies about the steak in the tep.

Best sports bar: Fun Bar. Best theme bar: Danny's. :kekeke:

What's the 'theme' in Danny's? Seedy hookers?

The theme is :-

We have TV's showing sport, so we are a sports bar.
We have a very loud band playing, so we are a music bar.
We have a range of expensive drinks, so we are a theme bar.
We have Big Rogier, so we are an Iron Bar

Are you starting to see the theme :kekeke:

There's a company, i think called home steak, that delivers steak and other meats to your door. They even sell spices and if you're really bad with the sticks and too lazy to go to the market- yes, that's right: they sell forks and knives.

Slightly off topic but did anyone read the article about Yan Gao & his brewery in this months Map mag?
I only read it yesterday and there seems to be a few digs from the new English intern (Ali Pechmann) who wrote the article towards Yan.
She refers to Yan as "a doughy-faced native who has kicked back many a beer". Plus a few other digs at his brewery and some representatives from a large exporting company who were there for business.

How come that the English editors at Map never seem to last longer than a few months?

Never ever ever go to Taco's for steak. The only time I went there, I ordered steak, and it was like eating Gandhi's flip-flop.

well their payment is really low and i think most of them just use it as a nice addition for their CV and to increase their experience. I like most of the stories and sometimes they do really good research work but i feel more and more that their is commercial pressure on them.

Taco and the Carioca (not sure about the spelling, the brazil restaurant in the sheraton) are the worst options for food i ever heard of
