Brent welcomes globally renowned rappers Das Racist to Nanjing with soup, noodles and pork. In exchange, he demands a special 'tribute to Nanjing' rap after their show at 61 House on Fri. Dec.

The venue

61 House produces electro dance shows and plenty of live music events. Typically, they book well-known Chinese bands, local college bands, and 2-3 international acts per month (here is their events roster for December).

While the Chinese shows draw well, the foreign acts – many of which are little-known in China – are still gaining momentum. According to 61 House Manager RuanRuan (also the singer of local punk band Overdose), "We want to make 61 House known as a dependable venue for quality international acts. So, we hope that many foreigners will come out to support these shows."

The show

Fortunately, the club drew a strong (80% foreigner) expat crowd that crowded the stage and really got into the music. The band was loose, whimsical and energetic. Frontman Himanshu Suri walked the crowd through their sets with the gentle care of a kindergarten teacher. After their first song: "That was our first rap song. We have seven more rap songs. So now we will play our second rap song."

His comrades Victor Vasquez and Ashok Kondabolu bounced, rolled, crawled and strutted around the stage, no doubt energized by Brent's wholesome Chinese pre-show dinner.
